Blog analytics and SEO extras: GA4, Tag Manager, and verification tags
See blog traffic in your own Google Analytics and prove blog ownership to Search Console, Bing, or Pinterest. Where every ID lives and which box it goes in.
All of this lives on Site & publishing under Blog analytics and SEO extras. Every field is optional; your blog works fine without them.
Google Analytics (GA4) ID
This makes your blog's visitors show up in your own Google Analytics reports.
- Open analytics.google.com and sign in.
- Click Admin (the gear, bottom left), then Data streams, then your website's stream.
- Copy the Measurement ID. It starts with G-, like G-AB12CD34EF.
- Paste it in the GA4 box and hit Save. From then on, blog visits appear in your reports.
Google Tag Manager ID
Only if your tracking lives in Tag Manager instead. In tagmanager.google.com, your container ID is at the top, starts with GTM-. Use one or the other, not both.
Blog homepage description
The sentence Google shows under your blog's name in search results. Write your own or hit Write it for me and we write one from your Business profile.
Verification meta tags
Some tools ask you to prove the blog is yours before they show you data. They do it by giving you one line of invisible code to put on your site. We place it for you.
The line they show you looks like this:
<meta name="google-site-verification" content="Abc123XYZ">
Copy the name part (google-site-verification) into the left box and the long code (Abc123XYZ) into the right box. Hit Save here, then go back to their tool and click Verify.
Where each service shows you the line:
- Google Search Console: add your blog as a URL prefix property (https://blog.yourdomain.com), then Settings, Ownership verification, HTML tag.
- Bing Webmaster Tools: add your site, choose the HTML Meta Tag verification option.
- Pinterest: Settings, Claimed accounts, claim your website, choose Add HTML tag.
If Verify fails right after saving, wait a minute and try again; the tag reaches every blog page within a minute or two.
