These publish into your own existing blog, so we can't auto-verify Search Console the way we do the hosted blog. Add our service account as a user instead - two minutes.
If your blog publishes into your own WordPress, GoHighLevel, Wix, or HubSpot site, this is on Site & publishing under Search Console traffic data, once your platform is connected.
Why this one isn't automatic. For the hosted blog we control the whole page, so we can verify ownership with Google ourselves, zero effort on your end. On WordPress and the other platforms we only have permission to publish posts (an app password, a private token, an API key) - never the kind of access that lets us prove ownership of your whole site. So instead of us proving it, you do it once, and then just add us as a user, the same way you'd add someone to a shared Google Doc.
What you're granting. A Search Console "Full user" can see your site's search performance (clicks, impressions, rankings) and take most actions, but can't remove other users or delete the property. It's the same kind of access you'd give an SEO freelancer or agency, and you can remove it any time from the same screen. This never touches your live site; it's read access to data about your site, nothing more.
Steps:
- Copy the email shown on the Site & publishing page (you'll need it in a minute).
- Open Search Console in a new tab.
- Already see your website listed there? Great, skip to step 5, you're already verified.
- Don't see it yet? Click Add property, choose Domain, and type just your domain (yourbusiness.com, no https:// or www). Google will show you one DNS record to add. If you've never touched DNS before, this is the exact same idea as connecting your blog, just a different record - follow our DNS guide for the exact steps at your registrar (GoDaddy, Namecheap, Squarespace, and more). This only proves the site is yours; nothing on your live site changes, and it's safe to come back to later if you want to stop here for now.
- Once your site shows as verified, click the gear icon (bottom left) for Settings, then Users and permissions, then Add user.
- Paste in the email from step 1 as a Full user, then click Add.
- Back in Update My SEO, click Check access. Google slow to catch up, or ran out of time? We also check automatically once a day, so it connects on its own even if you close the tab.
Once it's connected, your Overview page starts showing real clicks, impressions, and milestones (first click, page one, top three) for your articles, the same as a hosted blog.
